Background to our strategy Focusing on the future and on new trends, UCN’s strategy sets a direction for the next five years. But the strategy is also very much reflective of the special qualities and the special DNA that have made UCN a leading knowledge institution during the past 20 years. UCN’s study programmes stand strong thanks to our shared understanding of research-based reflective practice-based learning (RPL) as being at the heart of everything we do – and as setting the direction for the education and training of our students into competent, action-oriented and reflective professionals. Through targeted strategic efforts, UCN has boosted its practice- oriented research and development capacity. UCN’s knowledge production has been significantly strengthened in collaboration with practitioners and professionals. We have increased the number of employees with research competences to create even more practice-oriented knowledge and development for the benefit of many professions. This has been achieved in close collaboration with other national and international knowledge environments, which helps to ensure that UCN’s research and development activities are of the requisite, high professional standards. In an effort to develop a sustainable North Jutland and high- quality study programmes, we have strengthened our external collaborations, both with fellow educators in the Danish municipalities and regions, with the private sector and with other knowledge environments, locally, nationally and internationally. We have strengthened our efforts to further develop our students’ digital and technological skills in strong collaborations with fellow educators and other knowledge environments. 4
